Discover the hidden paradise
Kostanjevec - your perfect nature escape
Velika Gorica and its surroundings offer a mix of natural beauty and cultural heritage, perfect for relaxation.
Located in Turopolje, the region features forests, rivers like the Odra, Kupa, and Sava, and picturesque lakes such as Lake Čiče.
The landscape includes oak forests, gentle hills, and diverse flora and fauna, with Vukomeričke Gorice providing great opportunities for walking, cycling, and hiking. Historical sites like wooden chapels, manor houses, and the Andautonia archaeological site add to the area’s charm.
Only 16 km from Zagreb, Velika Gorica is a convenient destination for nature lovers and cultural enthusiasts alike.
Velika Gorica and its surroundings offer a total of 35 kilometers of well-maintained bicycle paths that run along the main city roads and bypasses1. These paths allow for safe and enjoyable cycling, ideal for recreational cyclists and families with children.
For those who want to explore the wider area, there is a good connection to Zagreb. The bicycle paths lead from the center of Zagreb to the center of Velika Gorica, with only 400 meters of bicycle infrastructure missing along the entire route. This connection allows cyclists to travel quickly and safely between the two cities, often faster than by car.
Cyclists can also use the route via the Domovinski Most, Most Slobode or Most Mladosti Bridge to get from Zagreb to Velika Gorica, which offers different options depending on the starting point and the desired scenario.
These bicycle routes not only provide an opportunity for recreation and enjoyment of nature, but also allow for exploring the rich cultural heritage and tradition of Turopolje, making Velika Gorica and its surroundings an attractive destination for cyclists of all experience levels.
The Šumarica educational hiking trail, about 9 kilometers long, connects the settlements of Krušak and Kozjača.
The path takes you through the forest, along forest slopes and ravines, along the Curek stream and across the Kozara stream, then past meadows, vineyards and cottages, along the farmyards and houses of Žitkovčica to the Lakovica viewpoint near Kozjača. You will pass through a part of the gentle landscape of Vukomeričke gorice with gentle hills and stream valleys far from the hustle and bustle of the city. Regardless of the season, hiking is the best way to immerse yourself in the calm atmosphere of this area, to tire your body a little, but to rest your spirit. On the trail you can read information about the history of Vukomeričke gorice, the population, wooden architecture, flora and fauna.
